The Communities Keeping Well Programme [North East] is working in partnership with two communities to support them to live healthier lives. Residents have established their health and wellbeing priorities and will be running their own projects to support these priorities.
We are working in two locations
- Old Ford
- Devons Road
Old Ford
Old Ford was part of our original community development programme, Communities Driving Change which ended in 2021. Work started up again in 2023 with the Old Ford pilot project which engaged with around 250 residents and identified a number of community priorities. This was funded initially by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and was part of the Well Communities Research Consortium led by City University, Tower Hamlets Public Health and partners.
Community development work continued in January 2024 when the area was selected for the Communities Keeping Well (CKW) programme. We engaged with a further 45 residents at this time through street conversations, door knocking, and focus groups to build on our previous insights into what would make the neighbourhood a healthier place to live. We re-visited a range of community locations and held a small community event in March 2024 to bring community members together again. We then followed up with 25 residents and stakeholders to confirm health and wellbeing priorities.
We engaged with 45 residents through street conversations, door knocking, and focus groups.

Community Voting Day
We are funding projects to address community priorities in Old Ford. At the Community Voting Day, residents will share their project ideas with local people to get their support. Local people will then vote on the project ideas that they like best.
Old Ford residents will then present their project ideas in a Dragon’s Den style event called a Community Voting Day on December 14th from 11.00am-2.00pm.
We engaged 50 residents through street conversations and door knocking to identify what would make their community a healthier place to live and what they are currently doing for their physical and mental wellbeing.

Devons Road Community Voting Day
This is a new way of funding projects in the Lansbury area that address community priorities. At the Community Voting Day residents will share their project ideas with local people to get their support. Local people will then vote on the project ideas that they like best.
Devons Road residents will present their project ideas in a Dragon’s Den style event called a Community Voting Day on Saturday 18th January 2025 at Linc Centre.
We also held an online ‘Priorities and Synergies’ event to run through the action plan that came from engagement with residents exploring the local priorities. This meeting was held with local stakeholders across both Old Ford and Devons Road. We had 60 stakeholders attend this from local community groups and charities to the local authority to discuss how to address the items in the action plan together at a local level.
