  • Community Health Check Programme

The Community Health Check Programme provides free health checks to residents of Tower Hamlets. Our goal is to prevent health issues by identifying key risk factors early and supporting individuals in taking proactive steps toward improving their heart health. Tower Hamlets Council in partnership with Tower Hamlets GP Care Group are providing this pilot programme until November 2025.

What does a Community Heart Check include?

Each health check takes just 15 minutes and covers:

  • Smoking status
  • Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Blood pressure check
  • Signposting to further risk assessments for alcohol and Type 2 Diabetes

These checks are designed to support early detection of health issues and provide advice and signposting to further support where needed.

All checks are followed by personalised advice and signposting to local services for further support, where needed.

Bringing health checks into the heart of the community

We are collaborating with local organisations to make health checks convenient and accessible. This means providing them in locations that residents frequently visit, such as schools, nurseries, faith settings, workplaces, libraries, community centres, and local events.

Why Should Your Organisation Host a Community Heart Check?

By hosting a Community Heart Check session, your organisation can play a key role in improving the health and wellbeing of Tower Hamlets residents.

Why get involved?

  • Make Health Accessible
Bring vital health checks directly to people who may not otherwise have access to them—right where they live, work, learn, and gather.
  • Support Early Detection and Prevention
Help identify risks such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease before they become serious, and connect people with the support they need.
  • Strengthen Community Trust
Hosting a health check session shows your commitment to the well-being of your community, staff, or members and builds trust in your organisation.
  • Encourage a Culture of Wellbeing
Whether you're a school, faith centre, workplace, or community group, offering health checks promotes a proactive and positive approach to health.
  • It’s Easy and Free to Host
We handle the setup and delivery—your role is simply to provide a welcoming space and help spread the word.

How your organisation can get involved
