The importance of raising awareness of suicide during the Christmas holidays

The holidays don’t feel joyful for everyone. For many, this season brings loneliness, stress, or grief, which can deepen existing mental health struggles and increase the risk of suicidal thoughts. Stigma often keeps people silent, especially when they feel pressured to “be happy”. Open conversations can break that stigma and remind people it’s okay to seek help.

Sharing crisis resources and checking in with others can make a real difference. Even small acts of kindness - listening, reaching out, offering support can bring hope to someone who needs it.

Tower Hamlets Council for Voluntary Service (THCVS) have put together a list of key local and specialist support services, which you can read here.
