Be Well Together: Exercise Programme for Adults with Learning Disabilities – Referrals Now Open

The borough’s vision of a seamless health and care experience for its citizens.

This programme is part of a broader health inequalities initiative. As many of you know, people with a learning disability experience stark health disparities. The Be Well programme has been developed to address these issues by creating inclusive, accessible, and sustainable leisure opportunities that support physical and mental wellbeing.
People with a learning disability experience stark health disparities. The Be Well programme has been developed to address these issues by creating inclusive, accessible, and sustainable leisure opportunities that support physical and mental wellbeing. Key components of the programme include:
- Training leisure centre staff to better support people with a learning disability
- Increasing the number and range of accessible activities
- Promoting social connection and reducing isolation
- Working with local services, including supported living providers and community organisations, to help participants access these opportunities
Led by the ICM Foundation, with support from Public Health and the Integrated Commissioning Team, this initiative aims to remove barriers and ensure equity in access to healthy, active lifestyles across our community.
Summer Timetable & Sign-Up Information
We’re excited to share that the summer timetable is now ready, and we are opening up referrals for participants!
Based on audits of local leisure centres and extensive feedback from people with learning disabilities and their support networks, we will be launching three weekly sessions:
*We will be hosting sessions until August 2026. A new timetable, with new activities, will be available in the Fall.
- Two sessions at Mile End Leisure Centre
- One session at Whitechapel Leisure Centre
- Activities will include multisports and gym training, open to men and women
Each session will run once a week through September, and participants will be expected to commit to attending regularly (barring illness). These spots are limited, and we want to ensure they go to individuals who can fully benefit from them. Day centres and carers will be asked to support participants in maintaining this commitment, including punctuality.
