East London NHS Foundation Trust launches new Primary Care Psychology and Counselling service for Tower Hamlets, in partnership with Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham. (MITHN)

From 1 October 2018, local people in Tower Hamlets can refer themselves to a new psychology and counselling service.

East London NHS Foundation Trust launched new Primary Care Psychology and Counselling service for Tower Hamlets on Monday 1 October, in partnership with Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham. (MITHN)

The new service is called Tower Hamlets Talking Therapies (THTT) means that local people can refer themselves to the service or ask their GP or health professional to make a referral on their behalf.

The name was chosen by a focus group comprised of local people. The service is available to people living in the borough or who are registered with a GP in Tower Hamlets.

Support with Common Mental Health Problems

The service can help people experiencing a range of difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, phobias, extreme shyness, anger issues, relationship issues, bereavement, etc. It offers counselling, psychological interventions for long-term health conditions and specialist interventions for Eating Disorders and perinatal interventions in primary care.

People can refer themselves by calling: 020 8475 8080

Referral can also be made by local GPs or health professionals.

 Local Psychological Services All Under One Roof

The service is a central point bringing together four services: psychological therapies, bilingual counselling, bereavement counselling and general counselling.

Following an initial assessment, the service offers a range of care pathways and therapy options to ensure that people get the appropriate specialist support they need.

The new service offers a wide range of psychological support to people in the borough. We provide similar services in Newham, Richmond and Bedfordshire so have developed extensive experience over time. We are looking forward to working with MITHN to develop a really effective service for local people.
